Solar Radiation in the British Isles
Contrary to popular belief the amount of solar radiation received by the UK is enough for solar water heating to be a viable
supplement to existing domestic water heating. Perhaps surprisingly the UK receives 65% of the amount of solar radiation that is
received by the south of Spain. The radiation in the UK is made up of direct radiation on sunny days, which accounts for around
40%, and diffused radiation on cloudy days, accounting for 60% of the total.
Summer will provide the largest amount of radiation over the year but a useful contribution will be provided by other
seasons.
Over a year of Solar Heating will provide roughly 50-70% of the typical annual domestic hot water requirement. This means that
the majority of your hot water is provided free of charge year after year.
Solar panels can be used in a variety of different properties. Up to 9 panels can be connected to each pump station to
provide flexibility in meeting the renewable energy needs of the property.
- Solar Panels capture free solar energy and uses it to heat domestic hot water
- Efficient collector with 95% absorption rate increases panel performance
- Selective coating on the collector allows the panel to absorb energy from the sun even on cloudy days
- Panels are equipped with quick fitting connections which save time and money
- A simple controller allows quick setting of functions and features a graphical display to provide more information
- Strong solar glass cover protects the collector from damage
- Flat, one piece design makes panel more robust than other solar panel types
- Panels are environmentally friendly and do not produce any direct emissions
- All materials are recyclable
Environmental Information
- There is now a general scientific consensus that pollution is causing global warming. Your Trade Services solar panel system
can save as much as 1 tonne of carbon dioxide per year, depending on the fossil fuel displaced.
- Our panels work on a carbon zero rating, emitting no carbon pollution and no harmful greenhouse gases whatsoever.
- Of course, energy was used to make the panels, but even this is recovered after only 2 years use.
Payback (Approximate and based on a Genersys System)
Hot water heating (on average) accounts for 26% of your annual energy bill. By installing a solar system you could generate
enough solar energy to heat 70% of your hot water, FREE, year after year! With a 35+ year life expectancy, the savings are very
big and payback can be between 8 and 12 years on a home system.
In summary:
- Generate up to 70% of your hot water FREE
- Payback in as little as 8 years
- 35+ year life expectancy; save on your energy bill year after year
- As fossil fuel prices continue to rise solar will save you more and more
